USC

The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), the cradle of universities in Galicia, is located in two historical cities: Santiago de Compostela and Lugo. It offers 63 official degrees and 6 own degrees, as well as a significant number of doctoral programmes (some of them awarded the Mention of Quality), and a wide range of master degrees and specialization courses.

The research group “Environmental Engineering and Bioprocesses” of the USC will be involved in the AQUAENVEC project (www.usc.es/biogrup). According to the specific research topics, its members are organized in working teams to develop research activities in five different programmes financed either by the EU, Spanish and Autonomous governments or private companies. Three European Union (EU) projects are being developed nowadays.

Research activities are focused on: application of fungi and their ligninolytic enzymes for degradation of recalcitrant compounds; development, monitoring and control of technologies for wastewater treatment; environmental Management such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Carbon footprint; biological treatment of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in gas emissions.
